    The Cranford Historical Society is proud to sponsor “United States Secret Service: Sons of Cranford” display at the Cranford Public Library during the month of March. The Cranford Library is located at 220 Walnut Avenue in Cranford. “United States Secret Service: Sons of Cranford” display features photos, documents and memorabilia about six Secret Service agents who lived in Cranford over the years. You can read more about these Cranford natives and their careers in the United States Secret Service by stopping by the Cranford Public Library. The Library hours are: Monday-Wednesday from 10:00am to 8:00pm, Thursday-Friday from 10:00am to 5:00pm and Saturday from 10:00am to 4:00pm.     The Cranford Public Library is pleased to announce the inaugural session of Books & Bagels, a new, book discussion program that will take place one Saturday morning a month. The format is simple. Bring a favorite book and tell the other members of the group what you like about it. There is no required reading and you will have the opportunity to learn about books recommended by other group members. Plus, refreshments will be served, courtesy of the Friends of the Cranford Public Library!     The Westfield Area Y is pleased to announce they are hosting their first Kids Festival in honor of 90 years of helping kids cultivate the values, skills and relationships that lead to positive behaviors, better health and educational achievement. The event will be held on Sunday, March 3rd at the Main Y Facility, 220 Clark Street in Westfield. The event is FREE for members and the community and is especially tailored for ages 6 months-6 years old. The fun begins at 11:30 am with various events scheduled throughout the day. In the gym from 11:30 am – 1:30 pm, there will be sports samplers including Basketball, Soccer, Fun Junction, T-Ball and Tae Kwon Do (12:30-1:30pm only). Participants will enjoy the preschool-sized party inflatable! Toddler Playhouse will be available from 11:30 am – 2:30 pm for soft-play fun. Sign-ups will begin at 11:30 am for a 30 minute swim lesson that will be held from 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm. Limited space available for Book, Craft & Play (11:30 am), Parent/Child Music (12:30 pm) and Kid Fitness/Dance Class (1:30 pm). There will be tables with information on child care, preschool, full-day kindergarten, summer camp, parties, membership specials and more! Space is limited.

    The Westfield Area Y is hosting their first Special Health Groups Activity Day on Tuesday, March 5th at the Main Y Facility located at 220 Clark Street in Westfield from 8:30 am – 2:40 pm, individuals who are dealing with such as Parkinson’s disease, Cancer, Diabetes, Osteoporosis or Arthritis can attend in the morning, afternoon or the entire day. The event is FREE, includes lunch and is open to the community. The day will begin with a Meet and Greet, coffee and tours and features instructors who are certified and experienced in teaching these specialty classes. There will be opportunities to try the classes and speak one-on-one with the instructors. Medical professionals are invited and encouraged to attend, as exercise has been proven to have a positive physical and emotional effect on people dealing with these issues. Please wear comfortable clothing and sneakers if you would like to participate in a demo class.Lunch will be served at noon, giving everyone an opportunity to sit down and share information and get to know each other. After lunch, there will be another session of information and class demos, similar to the morning’s offerings.     On Sunday, March 10th from 10:00 am - 4:00 pm, the Westfield Area Y will host a 4 vs. 4 Indoor Soccer Cup to benefit the Strong Kids Campaign at the Main Y Facility, 220 Clark Street in Westfield. The event is open to members and the community, boys and girls ages 8-14 years old. There is a maximum of seven players per team. Games will be 20 minutes and three games guaranteed. All proceeds will support the Y’s Strong Kids Campaign which ensures that no one who is experiencing a bona fide financial hardship is turned away for the inability to pay for programs or memberships. There is a $20 per player contribution or $100 contribution per team. A printable registration form for this event can be found online at www.westfieldynj.org and must be submitted to the Welcome Center at the Main Y Facility, 220 Clark Street in Westfield by March 1st.
