M*A*S*H details the exploits of military doctors and nurses at a Mobile Army Surgical Hospital in the Korean War. Between exceptionally gory hospital shifts and countless rounds of martinis, wisecracking surgeons Hawkeye Pierce (Donald Sutherland) and Trapper John McIntyre (Elliott Gould) make it their business to undercut the smug, moralistic pretensions of Bible-thumper Maj. Frank Burns (Robert Duvall) and Army true-believer Maj. "Hot Lips" Houlihan (Sally Kellerman). Abetted by others, Hawkeye and Trapper John drive Burns and Houlihan crazy. MASH creates a casual, chaotic atmosphere emphasizing the constant noise and activity of a surgical unit near battle lines.—All Movie

Former Cranford mayor Ed Robinson will talk about his recently published novel, a mystery entitled A “Jersey Shore Angel.” Mr. Robinson will have copies of “A Jersey Shore Angel” available for purchase and for signing. Admission is free and all are welcome. A Cranford resident for many years, Mr. Robinson now lives in Sea Girt. “A Jersey Shore Angel.” is his first book. During Hurricane Sandy, Mr. Robinson had no power for nearly two weeks and sat by candlelight. “They say everybody has a book in them and they are right,” Mr. Robinson said. “With no power in the house, there was nothing to do but write a book. “A Jersey Shore Angel” is a summer read, with a little spice in it.” The novel’s main character is Angel Barnacle. After a decorated career as a New York City detective, he returns to his roots at the Jersey Shore, and, despite two failed marriages, starts a private detective agency chasing down wayward spouses. “As a private detective,” Mr. Robinson noted, “Angel would never get involved romantically with a client, but he can’t resist one of them, a beautiful Broadway star. And, when she becomes a victim of Hurricane Sandy, Angel helps the police change the case’s status from accidental death to murder.” The program is sponsored by the Cranford Public Library.
